we went on a christmas tree hunt yesterday. yes, we went to a little farm in the louisiana countryside to cut down a fresh tree to decorate in our home. we were surprised to arrive and see fields of cypress trees perfectly manicured into conical shapes. louisianians have a different vision of a christmas tree than bostonians or even north carolininians. luckily, we found a few rows of loblolly pines (think charlie brown's christmas). ada picked out the perfect one. unfortunately it was about thirty feet tall. she still can not understand why it wouldn't fit on the car. so, we settled on a nice full, bushy tree that will do its job and fill our house with a wonderful christmas aroma. we are still waiting for birds to fly out of it, or even a squirrel or two to appear in the house, but it is lovely and amazing.
