got meat?

as i walk elias home from preschool, we discuss his morning and then i ask the simple question "what would you like for lunch today?"  i usually get- peanut butter and jelly, or mac n' cheese, or weaver street (the local co-op in our neighborhood).  simple right?  well, this past week his answers have taken a turn in a different direction.  "mom, can you go catch a chicken and cook it for me?"  or "why don't you shoot a turkey and cook it for me"  or "can you kill some turkeys and chickens and cook them for me?"
i have been kind of taken aback.  have i mentioned we are vegetarian?

now i will share the disturbing part.
yesterday morning i turned on the television to find Bambi on disney junior at 6am.
when all of your kids are up by 6am on a saturday morning, you would let them watch Bambi too.
we all hear the gunshot as Bambi and his mother are running through the snow.
my eyes have tears in them.
out of nowhere my ada says
"i wish i could see Bambi's mom shot dead."
really ada?  yuck.
elias "i wish i could eat the deer."
gross elias.  it was Bambi's mom.
elias "no, i want to shoot the bunny and eat it."
me "little thumper?  really elias'?  that is gross."

point taken, maybe my kids need more protein.

Cheesing

ch-ch-ch-changes.

we have been most productive this weekend.
by productive, i mean we have some big changes going on.
first and foremost, our oldest daughter has her first piercings.
i say this because several hours after we made our one and only trip to Claire's, ada asked how old you have to be to get your tongue and nose pierced!
good golly, what am i in for!
seriously, ada had been begging to get her ears pierced for a long time.
it is not a fad in this neck of the woods (she doesn't have a single friend with theirs pierced).  but after a particularly difficult week, we decided to let her do it.
she didn't even flinch.
i did, however.
now she looks sparkly, which is just what she was shooting for.
in other business, we had hired a handyman to do a few things around our house next week.  reza decided that there was no need for extra handiness in our house and that he would be the muscles- you know, because he has so much free time.  i had my doubts (it did take him six hours and a trip to home depot to by a jigsaw to cut the corian kitchen counters just to install a new sink), but he did it!
mission completed!
and that is just the beginning of my to-do list.
i would call it my honey-do list, but the reality is, now that there is no handyman coming, i will be doing most of the work myself.
and why are we doing this you may ask?  the big news is,  we are going to put our house on the market!  don't ask questions, we don't have answers.  but keep your fingers crossed for us!

i know i am biased, but could these kids get any cuter?

 yogurt.  yum.

the last picture of my ada with naked ears.

 hard at work.

with earrings, and her "teacher" glasses for playing school.
if only she liked her "real" school as much as she likes playing school!

my crew & a tribute to whitney

i am taking a hiatus from words.  i wouldn't even have checked my email this week if i didn't have an iphone.  but, here are some pictures from, well, life.

don't miss hanna's tribute to whitney.
ps- that may or may not be me singing in the background.  you might want to press mute.  i did.
oh, and that saggy diaper was quite stinky.  it didn't seem to hinder her mood though.
